Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP)
Location: Shanghai, China
Reporting To: HR Director / Head of HR
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to support key business functions within the pharmaceutical organization. The HRBP will serve as a strategic partner to business leaders, providing guidance on talent management, organizational effectiveness, workforce planning, employee engagement, and change management initiatives.
The successful candidate will possess strong business acumen, excellent stakeholder management capabilities, and proven experience supporting commercial, medical, R&D, or corporate functions within a dynamic healthcare or pharmaceutical environment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Business Partnership
Partner with business leaders to develop and execute people strategies aligned with business objectives.
Provide organizational and workforce planning support to ensure sustainable business growth.
Act as a trusted advisor on organizational design, team effectiveness, and leadership development.
Talent Management & Succession Planning
Facilitate talent review and succession planning processes.
Identify key talent, high-potential employees, and development needs.
Partner with managers to create individual development plans and career progression pathways.
Drive leadership capability building across supported functions.
Organization Development & Change Management
Lead organizational effectiveness initiatives and change management programs.
Support business transformation, restructuring, and organizational redesign efforts.
Analyze workforce trends and propose solutions to improve organizational performance.
Employee Relations
Provide guidance on employee relations matters, performance management, disciplinary actions, and workplace investigations.
Ensure compliance with local labor laws, company policies, and industry regulations.
Support conflict resolution and promote a positive employee experience.
Compensation & Incentives
Partner with Compensation & Benefits teams on annual salary reviews, promotions, and market benchmarking.
Support implementation of incentive programs, particularly sales incentive plans within commercial organizations.
Monitor talent retention risks and recommend appropriate interventions.
Employee Engagement & Culture
Drive employee engagement initiatives and action planning.
Partner with leadership teams to strengthen organizational culture and employee experience.
Act as the voice of employees while balancing business priorities.
Cross-functional Collaboration
Collaborate closely with Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, Compensation & Benefits, and Global HR teams.
Participate in regional and global HR projects.
Ensure consistent execution of HR programs across supported business units.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree or above in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or related disciplines.
8+ years of HR experience, including at least 3 years in an HRBP role.
Prior experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, medical devices, or life sciences organizations.
Strong understanding of talent management, organizational development, and employee relations.
Experience supporting Commercial, Medical Affairs, Sales, Marketing, R&D, or Corporate Functions.
Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and navigate matrix organizations.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Fluent English and Mandarin.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in multinational pharmaceutical companies such as Novartis, Roche, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, MSD, Bayer, Boehringer Ingelheim, or similar organizations.
Exposure to regional or global HR projects.
Experience supporting rapid-growth biotech or innovative pharmaceutical businesses.
Familiarity with sales force effectiveness and incentive design.
