Job Description: Regional Category Manager – Direct Procurement
Position Title
Regional Category Manager – Direct Procurement
Location
(Insert location: e.g., APAC Region / Shanghai / Singapore / Sydney)
Position Summary
The Regional Category Manager – Direct Procurement is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for direct materials across the region. This role manages key suppliers, drives cost optimization, ensures supply continuity, and supports product quality and innovation. The position collaborates closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Global Procurement teams to align category strategies with business needs and global objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Category Strategy & Development
Develop and implement regional category strategies for direct materials (e.g., metals, plastics, electronics, chemicals, components)
Conduct spend analysis, market intelligence, and supplier segmentation
Build multi‑year category roadmaps to optimize cost, quality, delivery, and risk
2. Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Selection
Lead sourcing initiatives including RFQ/RFP, cost analysis, supplier evaluation, and contract negotiation
Identify new suppliers and technologies to support business growth and innovation
Ensure alignment with global sourcing strategies and standards
3. Supplier Relationship & Performance Management
Manage strategic supplier relationships at the regional level
Conduct supplier performance reviews and drive continuous improvement programs
Collaborate with Quality and Engineering to resolve supplier issues and improve capability
4. Cost Optimization & Value Engineering
Lead cost‑reduction initiatives, including VA/VE, should‑cost modeling, and TCO analysis
Monitor commodity trends and proactively manage cost risks
Benchmark pricing and drive competitive sourcing activities
5. Risk Management & Compliance
Identify and mitigate supply risks related to capacity, quality, geopolitical factors, and financial stability
Ensure compliance with procurement policies, contracts, and regulatory requirements
Support dual‑sourcing and supply continuity strategies
6. Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Partner with Engineering, Operations, Planning, and Quality to support new product introductions (NPI), engineering changes, and production needs
Work with Finance to support budgeting, cost forecasting, and savings reporting
Align with global category managers to ensure consistency and leverage global scale
7. Data, Reporting & Process Improvement
Maintain accurate category data, supplier information, and spend reports
Drive digitalization, automation, and process standardization across the region
Track and report category KPIs (cost savings, supplier performance, risk indicators)
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or related fields
Master’s degree or professional certifications (CIPS, CPSM, Six Sigma) preferred
Experience
7–10+ years of direct procurement or category management experience
Regional or multi‑country sourcing experience strongly preferred
Background in manufacturing, automotive, electronics, industrial, or similar sectors
Proven experience in strategic sourcing, supplier management, and cost optimization
Skills
Strong commercial acumen and negotiation capability
Deep understanding of direct materials, supply markets, and manufacturing processes
Excellent stakeholder‑management and communication skills
Proficiency in ERP/procurement systems (SAP/Oracle/Ariba/Coupa)
Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities
Fluent English for business communication
