Job Description: Supplier Quality Manager (SQM)
Position Title
Supplier Quality Manager (SQM)
Location
(Insert location: e.g., Shanghai / Suzhou / Global Manufacturing Site)
Position Summary
The Supplier Quality Manager is responsible for developing, managing, and improving the quality performance of the supplier base. This role ensures that suppliers meet company standards for quality, reliability, compliance, and continuous improvement. The SQM works closely with Procurement, Engineering, Operations, and suppliers to drive robust quality systems, resolve issues, and support new product and process introductions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Supplier Quality Strategy & Management
Develop and implement supplier quality strategies aligned with business and operational goals
Establish supplier quality standards, KPIs, and performance monitoring systems
Lead supplier audits, assessments, and qualification processes
2. Supplier Performance Management
Monitor supplier performance in quality, delivery, and compliance
Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and ensure timely closure
Lead supplier improvement programs and continuous improvement initiatives
3. New Supplier & New Product Introduction (NPI)
Support supplier selection and qualification for new projects
Ensure suppliers meet requirements for PPAP, APQP, FAI, and other quality deliverables
Collaborate with Engineering and Procurement during NPI and process validation
4. Issue Resolution & Risk Management
Lead root cause analysis (8D, Fishbone, 5 Why) for supplier-related issues
Manage containment, corrective actions, and long-term preventive measures
Identify and mitigate supplier risks related to quality, capacity, and compliance
5. Compliance & Quality Systems
Ensure suppliers comply with industry standards (ISO9001, IATF16949, ISO14001, etc.)
Maintain documentation, audit reports, and quality records
Support internal and external audits related to supplier quality
6. Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Procurement, Engineering, Operations, and Logistics to ensure supply continuity
Provide technical guidance to suppliers on quality expectations and process improvements
Support cost reduction initiatives through quality and process optimization
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree or above in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related fields
Experience
5–10+ years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, or process engineering
Experience in electronics, automotive, mechanical, semiconductor, or industrial manufacturing preferred
Strong background in supplier audits, quality tools, and problem‑solving methodologies
Skills
Strong knowledge of quality systems, APQP/PPAP, SPC, FMEA, MSA, and root cause analysis tools
Excellent communication, negotiation, and supplier‑management skills
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
Proficiency in ERP systems and MS Office
Strong English communication skills
