Position Summary
We are looking for a seasoned and strategic Lead Engineer to develop and execute international vehicle certification strategies. This key leadership role ensures that vehicles developed and manufactured by our Chinese technology partners can be successfully certified and launched in key export markets, starting with India. The ideal candidate has direct experience in homologation, regulatory, or international certification departments of leading Chinese OEMs (e.g., BYD, Geely, SAIC, GWM, NIO, XPeng), serving as a bridge between the technology partner’s existing product and regulatory ecosystem and the diverse legal and technical requirements of target international markets. Their expertise will be critical to product strategy, engineering development, change management, and successful market entry.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and execute end-to-end homologation strategies for exporting vehicles from China to global markets (India, Europe, GCC, ASEAN, etc.).
• Conduct technical gap analyses between Chinese domestic regulations (GB standards) and target market regulations (e.g., UNECE, AIS/CMVR, FMVSS, GSO).
• Initiate, track, and validate engineering changes (via ECRs) to ensure regulatory compliance; oversee implementation by technology partners and suppliers, and update supporting documentation.
• Interpret complex technical regulations (covering safety, emissions, E&E, ADAS, connectivity, etc.) into actionable engineering requirements for stakeholders.
• Manage master homologation plans, including documentation schedules, testing, certification timelines, and budgets.
• Act as the primary technical liaison with technology partners’ homologation, R&D, and testing teams; build and maintain collaborative relationships.
• Oversee preparation, review, and submission of type-approval documentation to certification authorities.
• Coordinate homologation testing with technology partners and accredited labs; witness critical tests as needed.
• Provide early input on design changes to meet export regulations and monitor upcoming regulatory changes to advise senior management.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Electrical Engineering.
• 10-15 years of experience in automotive homologation and vehicle certification.
• Direct work experience in homologation/regulatory departments of leading Chinese OEMs (mandatory).
• Proven track record in managing homologation projects for exports from China, with essential experience in Europe (UNECE/WVTA).
• In-depth knowledge of GB standards and expertise in at least one major international regulatory framework (e.g., UNECE, FMVSS); familiarity with AIS/CMVR (India) and GSO (GCC) is preferred.
• Experience in homologation of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) is an advantage.
Skills
• Full professional fluency in English (written and spoken); proficiency in Mandarin is highly preferred.
• Strong cross-cultural communication skills to bridge Chinese and international teams.
• Expertise in engineering change management processes (e.g., ECR, ECN workflows).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail in complex regulatory documents.
