Category Lead(Strategic Sourcing & Procurement), Pharma MNC

We are partnering with a leading organization undergoing a significant transformation in procurement and supply chain excellence. We are now looking for a Category Lead to drive strategic sourcing, lead a high-performing team, and build world-class category management capabilities. Lead and develop a Category Management team Own a critical strategic category portfolio Drive category strategy, savings, and supplier performance Act as the SAP S/4HANA sourcing expert and trainer Ensure risk mitigation, compliance, and business continuity This role has significant visibility, managing a $150M+ spend portfolio, and working across internal leadership and international stakeholders. Key Responsibilities 1. Lead & Develop the Category Management Team Lead a team of Category Managers, Supplier Coordinator and Quality & Claims Coordinator Coach on sourcing strategy, negotiation, and GMP/GDP compliance Drive performance, capability building, and alignment with procurement strategy Allocate resources across categories and monitor team KPIs 2. Own Strategic Category Management (Hands-on) Manage end-to-end sourcing for a GMP-critical category (e.g., API/KSM or biotech-related categories) Conduct market analysis and supplier mapping Lead RFQ/RFP and TCO-based evaluations Negotiate commercial terms and finalize contracts Manage supplier performance and claims lifecycle 3. Drive Category Strategy & Savings Develop and execute multi-year category strategies Deliver ≥10% annual savings target across managed spend Build and manage savings pipeline and cost avoidance initiatives Engage directly with customers on demand planning and specifications Lead supplier relationship management and QBRs 4. SAP S/4HANA Expert & Capability Builder Act as super-user for SAP S/4HANA sourcing & contracts Train the team on sourcing tools, processes, and best practices Develop SOPs and ensure system discipline across procurement Partner with IT/SAP team on system improvements 5. Risk Management & Governance Build dual-sourcing strategies and business continuity plans Manage supplier risks, capacity, and financial health Ensure compliance with GMP/GDP and regulatory standards Chair Tender Committees and oversee contract governance Drive contract coverage (target ≥85%) and reduce leakage What We’re Looking For Must Have 7+ years in strategic sourcing / category management / procurement Strong experience managing end-to-end sourcing cycles Proven track record in cost savings and cost avoidance Hands-on expertise in SAP S/4HANA (Sourcing & Contracts) Experience in supplier risk management & BCP Solid knowledge of GMP/GDP or regulated environment Preferred Experience in Pharma / Biotech / FMCG Exposure to bioprocessing / single-use systems is a plus Professional certifications (CIPS / CPSM / SAP etc.) Strong leadership and coaching experience Why Join High-impact leadership role with regional visibility Opportunity to build best-in-class procurement capability Exposure to global suppliers and international stakeholders Strong platform for future leadership growth If you or anyone in your network seems suitable, contact Cece Tang through Cece.Tang@hays.cn or WeChat cece_tang
