About the Opportunity
Our client is a well-established international industrial manufacturing group that has recently completed the acquisition of a manufacturing facility in China. The business serves global customers in highly engineered industrial applications and is entering a new phase of integration, operational excellence, and organizational development.
To support this transformation, we are seeking an experienced General Manager to lead the site through its next stage of growth. This is a highly visible leadership role requiring a balance of operational leadership, people management, and cultural integration capabilities.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in aligning the site with global standards while preserving business continuity, retaining key talent, and building a high-performance organization.
Key Responsibilities
Post-Acquisition Integration & Transformation
Lead the successful integration of the acquired business into the wider global group.
Harmonize operational processes, management practices, and governance standards with group expectations.
Develop and execute a structured transformation roadmap while maintaining business stability.
Drive organizational alignment and ensure effective change adoption across the site.
Act as the key liaison between local operations and global leadership teams.
Leadership & Organizational Development
Build trust and engagement across all levels of the organization during a period of change.
Retain key talent and ensure continuity of critical business knowledge and customer relationships.
Foster a collaborative, transparent, and performance-driven culture.
Strengthen management capabilities and succession planning across key functions.
Develop an organization capable of supporting long-term growth and operational excellence.
Operational Excellence
Take overall responsibility for manufacturing, supply chain, quality, engineering, and site performance.
Ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable plant operations.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives across productivity, quality, delivery, and cost.
Monitor and improve operational KPIs to achieve both local and global business objectives.
Support investment and capacity planning initiatives where required.
Stakeholder Management
Work closely with regional and global leadership teams to ensure alignment on strategic priorities.
Establish strong relationships with employees, customers, suppliers, and key external stakeholders.
Serve as a trusted leader capable of navigating complex organizational and business challenges.
Provide regular business updates and strategic recommendations to senior management.
Candidate Profile
Professional Experience
Bachelor's degree or above in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or a related discipline.
Proven experience as General Manager, Plant Manager, Site Director, Operations Director, or similar leadership role within an international industrial manufacturing environment.
Strong track record of leading business transformation, organizational change, or post-merger/post-acquisition integration initiatives.
Experience working within multinational organizations and implementing global operating standards.
Solid understanding of manufacturing operations, supply chain, quality, engineering, and commercial interfaces.
Industry Background
Preferred background from international industrial technology, fluid control, industrial equipment, process automation, motion control, valves, pumps, instrumentation, or related engineered product sectors.
Experience in businesses characterized by technical products, complex manufacturing, and global customer bases.
Exposure to medium-sized industrial organizations rather than highly labor-intensive manufacturing environments.
Leadership Capabilities
High emotional intelligence with the ability to influence and engage diverse stakeholder groups.
Demonstrated success leading organizations through uncertainty, change, and transformation.
Strong resilience and ability to perform effectively under pressure.
Excellent communication, coaching, and conflict management skills.
Pragmatic, hands-on leader who combines strategic vision with strong execution capability.
Cross-Cultural & Communication Skills
Experience working within international matrix organizations.
Ability to effectively bridge local business needs and global corporate expectations.
Excellent stakeholder management skills across both Chinese and international teams.
Fluent Mandarin and English, with the ability to communicate confidently with senior leadership, customers, and employees in both languages.
